Richmond Beers — A Directory of the Brewers and Bottlers of Richmond, VA was published in 2000 by Danny Morris and Jeff Johnson. The 240 page, full-color book covers the Brewers and Bottlers in Richmond, Va from 1866 to 1969.
Richmond Beers is meant to be a guide for the collector of breweriana from the breweries and bottlers that operated in Richmond, Virginia. It’s purpose is to focus upon the frames of time when the bottles and advertising/go-withs were used by the people for which they were intended.
The business directories of Richmond, Virginia are the basis of my research into the brewers and bottlers that operated their trades in and around Richmond. City directories were nearly a year old by the time they were published and reached the general public. Not all businesses subscribed to them, for they may have chosen to to spend their advertising dollars on other mediums. A sign for their building and delivery wagon was sometimes all the advertising that was necessary.
